The mantra that permeates what Kendal Schmidt does is “Art is life” and describes herself as a Mother, teacher, gardener, and artist. She is a veteran educator at The Foundation Academy which is an ‘Innovative K-12 Private School In Jacksonville, FL!’
“The Foundation Academy was founded in 1988 by Principal Nadia Hionides. The school’s vision is for learning to be a dynamic, hands-on, and enjoyable process which harnesses and channels a student’s creative energy and adapts to their personal learning style.
Through the principles of faith, hope, and love, TFA encourages the celebration of cultural diversity, the development of critical thinking and the motivation of lifelong learning. TFA offers high-quality and affordable private education for your child.”
Kendal uses an innovative style to teach her students, integrating arts, science and technology, and even gardening to teach geometry, saying that it gives the students a sense of ownership and helps them to retain what they have learned. One project that she said she was very excited about was that her class was reading ‘Lord of the flies’ and was doing an ‘all girl’ production of it.
She is also an author and is using her artwork to illustrate the book. She truly leads by example. Kudos to this fascinating “Mother, teacher, gardener, and artist.”
