Cheryl McCain is the Educational Outreach Program Manager/Curator at Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum. A gifted Photographer/ Artist, Member of FemArt Gallery and Professional Photographers of America (PPA).
She has a passion for collecting older, vintage and nostalgic cameras. “Biography Cheryl McCain was born in Ocala, FL, and is a retired Navy veteran, who served honorably 20 years. Two years after retirement, she enrolled at The Art Institute of Jacksonville to study photography.
After two years at The Art Institute, she left her studies to care for her ailing husband. Her work has been published in The Miami-based magazine Chellae, HFL Magazine, Jacksonville’s Void Magazine and HFL Magazine.
In 2018 she was selected to exhibit in Jacksonville: A Tale of My City at the Jax Makerspace and Let’s Go exhibit at the Jacksonville International Airport’s Haskell Gallery. She also was selected and competed in the 2019 Artfield Artist Competition located in Lake City, South Carolina. She won her first juried exhibit, Through Her Lens, held by Fem Art Gallery.Earlier this year, her work was displayed in the Through Our Eyes exhibition at the Ritz Theater and Museum and Shawana Brook’s Magic, Mirth, and Mortality: Musings on Black Motherhood at Yellow House.
She is also an amplifier for Color Jax Blue, headed up by Shawana Brooks founder and curator of 6ft Away Gallery. Cheryl is married to Charles McCain and have four adult children: Antonio, Mia, Vivica and Emanuel. Cheryl and her husband resides in Historic Springfield.
